AMI TECH TIP
TECH TIP NO. 16.001
DATE: May 8, 1991
BOARD TYPE: Enterprise II, Series-16
BOARD REVISION: D or D1
BOARD FREQUENCY: 25MHz or 33MHz
RELEASED BY: Engineering Dept.
PROBLEM: 1. The Impact Super VGA card from Trident may fail when plugged
into the Enterprise II motherboard. (This problem will also
affect the Enterprise I motherboard, Series-25. See Tech Tip
No. 25.001).
NOTE: The problem above does not effect Series-16, Rev-D1.
2. The power LED will not work.
REASON: 1. There were two capacitors added to this board with ECN 16.002.
They are filter caps to eliminate reflections on the IORC# and
IOWC# signals. These capacitors may cause the Impact Super
VGA card from Trident to fail.
2. The Keyboard Lock connector was wired improperly. Pin 2 was
connected to GND by mistake. Pin 3 should have been connected
to GND.
SOLUTION: 1. This problem is currently being evaluated and a solution has
not yet been found that will take care of the reflection
problem and the video problem simultaneously. When a solution
has been reached, an ECN will be implemented immediately. In
the meantime, if a customer must use the Impact Super VGA card
from Trident, he may have to remove the capacitors soldered
on top of U89. However, if he is using several EISA slots,
this may cause other problems such as "CMOS INOPERATIONAL".
2. Solder a wire from J14 pin 2 to J14 pin 3 on the solder side
of the board (See ECN No. 16.004).
